UGANDA : Uganda’s Gazelles fall to Egypt │ Zone V Nations Qaulifiers

Uganda’s ladies side started the FIBA Africa Zone V Nations Qualifiers with a losing effort. They fell to Egypt 65-61 in front of a home crowd.
The Gazelles succumbed to Egypt’s full court man-to-man coughing up the ball several times as the Egyptians who trailed all through the first half exploded in the third frame  to level the game  at 41 and went ahead  for  the first time on Soraya Muhamed’s pair of free throws with 1:20 and closed the third quarter leading 48-44.
The Gazelles played catch up through the final frame and eventually did level at 57 on Vickie Nassolo’s free throws that followed Flavia Oketcho’s big 3-point play but that was the closest the Gazelles came in the final frame.
Reen Oussama led Egypt with 16 points, Sarah Massoud added 14 points off the bench, Alia Mohmoud chipped in with 11 points and Soraya Mohamed contributed 10.
Power Forward, Sharon Karungi scored game high 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a losing effort. Claire Lamunu had 17 points and point guard, Flavia Oketcho netted 13 points and handed out 5 helpers.
Meanwhile, Egypt will return to the floor this evening to take on defending champions, Kenya who will be playing their first game of the tournament.
