LIBERIA : C-Delta Confirms Withdrawal from LBA League

By: Leroy M. Sonpon, III

The technical manager and captain of C-Delta Basketball Club, Eddie Panton and Claudia George have confirmed the team’s withdrawal from the national basketball league.
The duo said the withdrawal is due to the untimely opening of the league in the raining season.
They said the 2014 Basketball League will not end at the open-air Sports Commission and the league will not continue at the SKD Sports Complex because of the pending renovation.
Coach Panton and skipper George described the one-phase 2014 basketball league as a mockery.
“The basketball league has never stated in April before which inarguably means the league should not because we’re in the rainy season,” Coach Panton said.
He added: “The next thing is where to practice during the raining season; the only place is at the YMCA --- but unfortunately, the Children Vacation Basketball Program will be on.”
Ms. George, who is also captained the female national team, said the opening of the league in April is improper because the league will not end because of the rain and there is nowhere else to go to continue the league.
“It’s just regrettable that this administration could not observe the climate since the Sports Commission is not covered,” Ms. George said.
In his reaction LBA president, Rufus Anderson said C-Delta’s argument does not hold, and expressed confidence that the league would end successfully.
He added: “We believe the league will end with the participation of the 43 teams in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd division leagues.”
The founder of C-Delta, Montserrado County’s District # 7 Representative, Solomon George could meanwhile not be reached up to press time yesterday for his reaction.
