Nigeria: Mark D Ball - Nollywood Stars to Take On Celebrity Players

The annual Mark D Ball Basketball tournament will hold in Otukpo from December 26-31, with the Nollywood Stars going against a celebrity team of basketballers in a friendly game to open the tournament.
The Mark D Ball tournament which started as "Save the Game" about 14 years ago, has been steadily integrated as a regular menu on the Nigerian calendar such that basketball enthusiasts highly anticipate it.
The event, which is supported by Senate President David Mark, provides employment for youths from Benue State and Nigeria, in addition to exposing the host community to business opportunities.
The tournament will feature teams from all over the country and from some West African nations. Blame it on Experience, featuring the likes of Tunji Awojobi, Ejike Ugboaja and Ogoh Odaudu won cup last year after defeating a team from Benin Republic. Lagos Dolphin won the female version by seeing off the challenge of Lagos Pearls. Head Technical Unit of the competition, Obande Ogbole, said 12 male and 10 female teams drawn from across the country will be attracted to the competition.
Ogbole also noted that the platform will benefit children from the orphanage homes as they will constitute some of the kids that will feature in a clinic to learn the rudiments of basketball. Over 500 kids will enroll at the academy this year and will draw from the experience of international and local experts on how to develop their skills
