KENYA : Kenya redeems herself against Somalia

The Kenya men’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon managed to redeem themselves by beating Somalia 72-63 in the Zone 5 African Cup of Nations qualifiers 3rd place play-offs.
Kenya had earlier been surprised by Somalia in the group stages going down 79-81 and the win is a huge relief for the side. The women’s team had superb outing at the tournament held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where they were crowned champions with a hundred percent winning record and in the process earned a ticket to the African Cup of Nations.
Somalia kicked off the match on a high note getting the best of Kenya, taking the 1st quarter with a 21-11 score line. All the stakes were against Kenya and sensing a second embarrassment they stepped up their game and took the second quarter with an impressive 22-13 win to put the half time scores at a closely shaven 34-33 in favor of the Somalis.
The 3rd quarter saw Francis Ngujiri’s side unleash all their potential taking the quarter at 19 points against Somalia’s 9 points but in the last quarter the two teams settled for a 20 point draw to hand Kenya the 3rd place.
Griffin Ligare who captains Thunder basketball team in the KBF Premier League gave Kenya 23 points while Somalia’s Fisal Jama had 25 points in the highest in the match.
