RWANDA : National Hoops Coach Sacked

Nenad Amanovic's reign as national basketball coach is over following face to face talks with the national basketball governing body, Ferwaba.
The sack comes just four months into his new one-year renewable contract and Ferwaba's Secretary General Richard Mutabazi revealed that the Croatian's departure is a result of Rwanda's disastrous display in the Afrobasket U-18 boy's tournament which was held in Maputo, Mozambique back in August.
After beating the hosts (62-34) in their opening fixture, the team went on to lose their remaining Group A matches (Tunisia 43-38 Rwanda, Mali 47-33 Rwanda and Rwanda 43-48 Ghana) to finish bottom of the group and miss out on a place in the quarter-finals.
Their 66-74 loss against Morocco in the classification matches ultimately pushed them to the bottom of the overall standings which to Mutabazi was unacceptable considering the fact Ferwaba had met all Amanovic's demands in the build-up to the tournament.
"After carefully assessing the junior hoops performance in Maputo, we had no choice but to let the coach go," the official said.
"It is not a decision that was reached lightly or hastily. Our job now is to identify and recruit the right person to take Rwandan basketball forward."
