NIGERIA : NBBF Fines Dolphin Basketball Club

The Executive Board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has imposed a fine of fifty thousand naira (N50, 000) on Dolphin basketball club of Lagos for failing to honour its rescheduled 2nd phase game against Sunshine Angels of Akure.
The board said it viewed Dolphin's decision to stay away from the game as a ploy capable of bringing the game to disrepute since they offered no explanation that they will not be available for the rescheduled game which held Saturday October 22, 2011, in Lagos nor registered any protest.
The NBBF ruling body acted on the report of the technical commissioner from the stalemated 2nd phase held in Akure, Ondo State in August this year and ordered a replay of the game.
The technical committee of the board also upturned Dolphin's protest against First Bank and one of its players, Evelyn Akahtor for failing to back up its claim.
In a letter dated Ref No: NBBF/NLW.65/2011/VOL.IV/237 and signed by the secretary general of the NBBF, Francis Gbiri, the player (Evelyn Akahtor) who was initially suspended by the federation's technical committee is now free to play for her desired club while all the points and grounds awarded against First Bank have also been lifted.
