KENYA : Four Teams for Regional Club Tourney in Dar-Es -Salaam

FOUR Kenyan teams will spearhead the country's assault in the FIBA Africa Zone Five Club Championships early next month in Dar-es -Salaam, Tanzania. The event moved from September due to the 10th All Africa games in Maputo, Mozambique will throw off from October 9-15 in the Tanzanian capital city.

Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) secretary Vitalis Gode said with the Pan Africa Games over, the stage is set for the regional event and reigning men's champions Co-operative Bank (men) and Eagle Wings (women) will lead Kenya's charge.
The other participants are KCB Lions and national women champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). The four teams were also in Bujumbura, Burundi last year, where Lions and KPA finished third.
Host Burundi gave a good account of themselves in only their first regional championships that also included teams from Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.    Zone Five president Morris Aluanga said that the entry in Dar will be the largest ever as a minimum of 22 clubs are expected. He said the competition is expected to get tight in future with the entry of Southern Sudan. The last edition in Burundi had a total of 18 teams with the 2009 one in Kampala, Uganda setting the existing record with 19 clubs.
