The usual feisty Friday MTN-Fuba League contest was reduced to a procession as DMark Power steamrolled Mountain Dew Falcons 80-61 to lay down an early marker for the play-offs.

It was a comprehensive team performance from Power as their opponents faded as soon as the umpires got the game underway at a packed YMCA court, Wandegeya.
Power, three -time league champions, hardly put a foot wrong as they put the record winners to the sword with their quick transition.

Fit-again forward Isaac Afidra made a giant step to regaining his shooting gun with a game-high 22 points. “I think our team strategy was fantastic especially the guards who defended superbly,” an elated Afidra told Sunday Monitor.

Falcons’ guards Sudi Ulanga (8) and Ronnie Kalule (8) hardly got any rhythm as their direct foes in Ben Komakech (10) and Emmanuel Enabu (4) shut them out.
Having clinched the first quarter 26-10, Power tightened their screws on the seemingly disorganized opposition who showed some fight but the efforts came a little too late.

“I don’t think we have trained as hard as we did for the past two weeks. Everyone was brilliant,” Power captain Norman Blick, who had seven points, said.
Despite reducing the margin to 13-14, 22-16 and 19-21 in the final three periods, Falcons only masked a dour night as the game ended in unusual quiet.

Playing through a pain barrier on his knee, Richard Osano Omondi (5) was barely competitive as Falcons relied on Mike Buzangu (15) and Bievenue Ngandu (10). Teams in Burundi.

Elsewhere, local champions Warriors, Miracle, UCU Canons and UCU Lady Canons made the bus journey to Bujumbura on Friday night for the Africa Zone 5 Club Championship.
