GAMBIA : Saints battle SOS in basketball final

An eight-team inter-senior secondary school basketball tournament organized by the Scholar Athlete for Change (SAC) in collaboration with the Gambia Secondary School Sports Association (GSSSA) has reached its climax.

Saint Augustine’s Senior Secondary School will rub shoulders with SOS Senior Secondary School in the grand final today at the Independence Stadium, but not until the third place winner had been decided on the same day between the semi-final casualties - Saint. Peter’s Senior Secondary School and Kotu Senior Secondary School.

SOS beat Saint Peter’s to reach the final, while Saint Augustine went through at the expense of Kotu Senior Secondary School. A coveted trophy and staggering cash prize of D10, 000 await the prospective winners of today’s final, while the runners up will console themselves with a cash prize of D6, 000.

The third best team in the tournament will bag D4, 000, while there will also be prizes for the most disciplined team as well as the most valuable player of the tournament. Pierre Jallow, a renowned Gambian professional basketball and founder of Scholar Athlete for Change - a foundation that aims to promote basketball among youngsters – is the brainchild of the tournament that aims at reviving the trade of basketball in school system.
