This season is quite amazing so far. With about five rounds of play left, three teams have already qualified for the play-offs while four others find themselves in an intriguing battle for the remaining slot.

Warriors, DMark Power and Falcons occupy the top three positions while Ndejje Angels, Kampala International University, Miracle Eagles and Nkumba Marines are all hopeful of finishing fourth.

Like coach Walker Obedi admits, Ndejje are the surprise team this year and their performances have left many in awe.

A 78-82 loss to table-topping Warriors last week knocked them off track briefly but they are back in contention after Marines suffered two back-to-back losses over the weekend.

Despite lying eighth on the table, just one point behind Marines and two apiece off Miracle and KIU’s pace, Obedi is still hopeful his charges can take the tightly-contested fourth position. But he also recognises the threat posed by his opponents tonight Falcons, a side he played for a few seasons ago. “Since that slim loss to Warriors, we have been working on our mistakes,” Obedi revealed ahead of the clash due at YMCA Wandegeya. “I feel we can get a win against Falcons.”

Two Falcons’ players Isaac Lugudde and Sande Okot have been suspended for a year and four matches respectively, which leaves the record champions with a depleted bench. But even without the duo, who were involved in a brawl during their game against UCU Canons on September 6, Falcons still look a better team on paper with the experienced Shs72 million signing Stephen Omony and Henry Malinga.

“I know dealing with the big men especially Malinga will be a problem but I have worked out something,” Walker noted.
Second-placed KCC Leopards face Amazon Rhino in an earlier women’s encounter while Livingstone entertain high-flying MBC Rocks in the men’s second Division.
