KENYA : Zone 5 Qualifiers: Kenya now names final teams for Kigali

Veteran guard Eunice Ouma was dropped from the national women's team that will do duty for the country in the Africa Nations Cup, Zone Five qualifiers in Rwanda next week.

Ouma, who has been a regular in the side for over ten years was axed alongside youngster Everlyne Adhiambo as the final team was named yesterday.

Coach Philip Onyango said Anastasia Njeri, earlier dropped, was included as the 13th player. He promised the team would make it to the Africa championships latter in the year.

"After some hectic consultations, we have decided to drop Ouma who has lost form completely and Adhiambo. There was also varied views on who between Njeri and Bridgit Nanzala deserved to make it but the coaches opted for the latter." he said.

However, he said that, Njeri will travel as an extra player and the coaches would assess who between the two will be included in the final roster for the games that start tomorrow at the Amahoro Petit Stadium, in Kigali.

Men's coach Anthony Ojukwu had little problem identifying his final line up. He dropped Mike Opinya, Tiberious Menya and Desomond Owili.

"I have settled for the final 12 and trust that the boys would do the nation proud by beating the hosts Rwanda and perennial power house Egypt to book their continental ticket." noted Ojukwu.

Ojukwu named Paraguay based professional Peter Kiganya to captain the side to be assisted by Tobias Onyango. The team has eight new caps with only three who were in Kigali in 2007 for the All Africa Games Qualifiers.

The teams departed by road on Sunday to Kigali for the tournament that will attract regional nations like host Rwanda, Uganda, Egypt and Burundi in men category and Rwanda, Uganda, and Burundi.
