ANC 2009 – Zone 5 Qualifiers: Rwanda Sinks Burundi men 100 – 55 in day 2


The Rwanda men team got a validating victory yesterday to keep their hopes alive of making to the African Nations championships due in Libya.

Rwanda men team gave a second perfect showing in the ongoing FIBA- Africa Zone V both men and women Africa Nations Championships qualifiers by thumping Burundi 100-55 yesterday at Amahoro stadium's Petit Stade.
Mathiew Miller led on Rwanda's scoreboard as he recorded team's highest 15 points while Buzane Mike added 14 points before Robert Thompson hit 10 points as the hosts took Burundi through a basketball lesson.
Dieudonne Habiyambere top scored for Burundi with 15 points
Rwanda's guard Karim Aime Nkusi also put up an impressive showing in the fourth quarter as his nine points sealed Burundi's fate with three minute to go to the end of the game.

Earlier in the day, defending champions Egypt piled more misery on whipping Uganda's with a 95-53 win.
Karim Haytham top scored 21 points for Egypt as Norman Blick made his mark on the game with 15 points for Uganda.

In the women's category, Rwanda defeated Kenya 61-52 in her second game of the championship while Uganda recorded her first victory in any category with a 77-57 win over Burundi.
Rwanda's female team returns to action today when they face Burundi at 6pm while Kenya will take on Uganda at 2pm.

In the men's category, Burundi will face champions Egypt at noon while Kenya face Uganda at 4pm.
