ANC 2009 – Zone 5 Qualifiers: Rwanda Crash Uganda 95 – 69 in women opening game

The women's national team of Rwanda ruled Uganda’s team 95 – 69 at the opening game of the Zone 5 both men and women Africa Nations Championship qualifiers running in Kigali, Rwanda.
"Rwanda was a lot more organised than us," said Uganda women's coach Mande Juruni after watching his side succumb to a 95-69 defeat in the Amahoro Indoor stadium.
The difference was their three-point shooting, added Juruni, for whom Frances Nabulobi and Mariam Birungi tried to make a difference with a team-high 14 points each.
Uganda was always going to struggle against a Rwandan team which, like all tournament hosts, has invested much in preparations.
"You could see they have played together for a long time," explained Juruni before adding that Rwanda, "had four players who play professional basketball."
However, Juruni promised his side would exact revenge on Rwanda when they meet later in the second leg of the round robin.
"I believe we can beat them when we meet again, I believe we can."

In the second women tie, Kenya beat Burundi 68 – 52.
