ANC 2009 – Zone 5 Qualifiers: First win for Egypt and Rwanda

Rwanda got their Zone V qualifiers campaign off to a flyer after yesterday's convincing 93-70 victory over Uganda at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

It was a perfect start for the hosts, who are gunning for their second successive appearance at this year's Afrobasket competition due in Libya.
Amandin Rutayisire led Rwanda's assault with a game high 25 points while Robert Thomson added 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Stephen Omony top scored for Uganda with 20 points.

Earlier in the day, defending champions Egypt punished Kenya for fielding an inexperienced side with a towering 101-39 victory. This means that Rwanda and Egypt are now jointly tied at the top of the table with two points each.
In the ladies' category, Rwanda gave defending champions Kenya plenty to think about after their 95-70 win over Uganda.
Kenya also registered their first victory of the tournament after a 68-52 over Burundi.
Rwanda's male team returns to court action this evening with another test against Burundi while their female counterparts battle Kenya in the first game of the day (12:00).

While two slots are at stake in the men's category, only one slot is up for garbs in the ladies' category. The African Women's basketball championships will be held in Madagascar.
