Trials to select the national team for the Africa Championship Zone 5 qualifiers have been moved from the traditional YMCA Wandegeya courts to Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono.

Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (Fuba) said yesterday the trials would take place this Saturday as they try to sieve out the best players for the tournament due next month in Bujumbura, Burundi.
“All respective players are informed to be at YMCA by 8:30am on Saturday. They will later be transported to Mukono,” Fuba technical committee official Donan Byabazaire communicated in an e-mail yesterday.
39 men and 31 women have been summoned for the trials that will be conducted and supervised by a nine-man panel including coaches and technical committee members.
Coaches for the two teams (men and women) will be selected from a list including Nimrod Kaboha, Tom Ocamringa, Jason Mehl, Hamza Nyambongo, Timothy Odeke, Nelson Onyunta and Samuel Samanya.
Joseph Manano, the Fuba assistant general secretary has warned that any player who fails to show up for the trials won’t be included on the team. Only the Seychelles-based Stephen Omwony has been given dispensation to skip the trials.
Meanwhile, Fuba is set to hold a consultative meeting with team managers on Sunday to chart the best way to have an organized league. The MTN-sponsored league, set to begin next month is likely to attract more teams.
Sadolin Power are the reigning top flight league champions, having beaten Falcons in last season’s final.
