Isaac Afidra will step down as Sadolin Power skipper after leading the side to the MTN-Fuba League championship in his one-year tenure. Afidra, who is currently nursing a toe injury picked from last year’s final play-off series against Falcons, revealed to Daily Monitor recently that he would be too busy to continue as captain.

“My work schedule this year is going to be very tight. I can’t give 100 percent to the team,” said Afidra, who was appointed captain immediately after he returned from Kampala International University (KIU). Despite missing a big part of last season with a back strain, Afidra returned to spur Power past Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons and Falcons in the play-off semifinals and finals respectively.

His high-scoring proficiency came to the fore as Power recovered from 1-0 down to win the semifinal series 2-1. Afidra was also outstanding in the finals, which made him a contender for the Most Valuable Player’s (MVP) accolade although he lost to Ben Komakech.

Afidra’s inconsistency this coming season may be a big blow to Power as they seek to retain the league and also impress in the Africa Zone 5 Club Championships.

Afidra has always insisted that Power is a big team capable of competing even without its best players. “I hope we shall meet soon as a team and elect another captain,” he said.
