TANZANIA : Chui batter PTW in basketball league match

BENEDICT Mkangwa scored the game’s high 18 points to lead Chui to a 53-43 victory over PTW in the Kili RBA basketball league match which was played yesterday at the Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Doto Mihayo added 16 points to completely seal the victory for Chui who were impressive throughout the evening. The game was very tight in the early minutes of the first half, as both teams resorted to defending tactics.

Whenever Chui player could receive a ball, within no second, a PTW player could be behind his back. Players continued tight marking each other but during the course of the game, they got tired and started playing freely.

Ever industrious Mkangwa with his speed caused all sorts of problems in PTW defence as time and again he penetrated it. But still PTW never laid back, they also made torrential of attacks to the eventual winners.

And by first half the game ended 21-17 in favour of Chui who looked deadly with their crisp passes. In the second half, Abel Masunga tried to put PTW back in contention when he scored 10 points, but it was too little to save them from sinking. And up to the final whistle Chui were still in the lead by 53-43.

In another game which was played late in the evening, Savio came from behind to beat TM Rockets 53-38. Victor Bogi scored 11 points and William Okida added eight to help TM Rockets to finish the first half on high 22-21. However, after the break Savio regained their composure and started attacking the hapless TM Rockets.

With the help of George Tarimo and Abdul Mtambo who scored 11 and 10 respectively, Savio took the lead in the second half. Savio continued pampering TM Rockets and in the end their tactics paid off when they emerged victors with 53-38
