14th Champions Cup for women - classification 7 – 8: KPA lose to APR 50 - 67

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) lost 67-50 to APR of Rwanda in the 14th FIBA Africa women club championships show at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium today.

The Kenyans thus finished in position 8 as APR playing in their first championships took the 7th place. APR were up 21-15 in the first quarter, and 14-13 in the second quarter. The Rwandese who earlier lost 44-43 to KPA in their pool B game, played well in the third taking a 21-15 difference.

KPA, who never recovered ended the match down 11-16 in the last quarter and had only captain Caroline Arato to thank as she continued her good form in the last two games after a poor start. She was the only player to post double digit scores, she nailed 16.
APR had a balance attack led by Muhongerwa Alice and Ndaya Blandine who all hit 20 points while Nadangi Patience shot 11.Assistant coach Mbazumutima Charles was happy.
He told FIBA Africa after the final whistle that he was happy at their achievement in their first outing." We are all too happy to come here and end up in the seventh position in only our first tournament. We can only do better in future." he said.
KPA senior welfare officer Edward Oduor said that the furture for his team is to bank on the youth." We will need to involve younger players in future. That will be the key as this is what we have learnt from this tournement. Its the only way forward." he said.
