KENYA : Champs KCB And Co-Op Bank Stay Unbeaten

Defending champions Kenya Commercial Bank Lions and Co-operative Bank kept their stranglehold on the basketball Premier League first leg following last weekend's matches in Nairobi.
The KCB Lions maintained their seven-match unbeaten record with a 65-47 demolition of United States International University Tigers. Dennis 'Dikembe' Opiyo and Tobias Onyango led Lions to a 29-27 half-time lead. Onyango scored 32 points while Opiyo had 11 for the Lions. Co-op Bank rocked Kenyatta University Pirates 98-70. They led 47-30 at half-time. Lewis Muya led the bankers with 20 points, while Wycliffe Ochieng contributed 16.
Griffins Ligare had a game-high 26 points and team-mate Phil Dinga 16 for the students. In the women's top tie, Hilda Luvandwa hit 15 points while Miria Awori had 20 as USIU Flames beat Strathmore University 59-52. Strathmore trailed 33-14 at the breather. Posta maintained their top spot in the men's Division One league when they defeated World Hope 99-68. Veteran Ben Oluoch and William Otieno scored 18 points each for Posta, who led 48-36 at half-time. Conrad Wafula got 17 points while Morris Obilo replied with 12 for World Hope.
Mennonites hit Juja-based Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 65-40. The first two quarters were closely contested with Mennonites squeezing a narrow 23-20 half-time lead. Bernard Chege scored 18 points for Mennonites while Eugene Mutabele had 17 for JKUAT. New-comers Blazers hit African Nazarene University 78-49 to register a double from their two tight weekend fixtures. Ken Keya scored 28 points while Fidney Ochieng shot 11 for Blazers, who led 41-27 at half-time. Peter Gathungu replied with 26 points for ANU.

Blazers had started their weekend assignments well with a 66-53 win over the JKUAT.
