KASSIM Hatima led unbeaten A1 Challenge past Crane high with a season-high 34 points that extended her team's perfect run in the ladies MTN basketball league to five wins.
A1 were without key players Elizabeth Kizza and Aggie Nantongo, but that did not save their high school rivals from the mauling with Hatima coming close to Cranes' total score.
Mavita Ali chipped in with nine points for A1. The win put A1 in second position on the table, one behind KIU Rangers, who have played a game more.
Flavia Oketcho continued her impressive return for the UCU Canons after missing the first three games of the season, scoring 22 points as they overwhelmed the Amazon Rhinos. Lorraine Akenyi added 15 as the university side won their third consecutive game to climb to fourth place on the national league table standings.
Trials for players selected to make the Ugandan team that will compete in the Zone V Under-18 qualifiers in August were conducted at the UCU in Mukono over the weekend.
Sixty-nine boys and girls of the originally selected 70 turned up for the two-day trials which were supervised by ten local coaches and three league players.
Each coach will draft his most preferred 15 players for both the girls and the boys teams before they meet to decide on the final squads to the qualifiers.
Uganda will host the qualifiers for the Africa national U-18 championships to be held in Egypt later this year.
