KENYA : KCB Lions And Co-Op Bank Stay Dominant

Champions Kenya Commercial Bank Lions and rivals Co-operative Bank have dominated proceeding since the beginning of the new basketball Premier League season.

The two local giants remain unbeaten after their first four matches so far this season.
They chalked up convincing wins last weekend, with KCB Lions beating Kenyatta University Pirates 72-57 and Co-op Bank beating Kisumu's Lakeside 64-52. Both matches were played at Nyayo Stadium.
The absence of experienced coach Francis Ngunjiri did not deter the Lions from harvesting maximum two points.
They remain at the top of the standings with eight points.
Tobias Onyango, Paul Onyango and John Njuguna set the ball rolling for Lions, under assistant coach George Owino. They led 21-12 in the first quarter.
The students were down 42-30 at half-time but Martin Obure and Griffins Ligare gave a good fight in the last quarter.
Onyango shot 13 points and Dennis Opiyo 12 for Lions while Phil Dinga scored 17 points and team-mate Obure 15 for the losers.
Emma Nyakweba scored 17 points while Irene Makori shot 13 as Sprite Storms beat Strathmore University 65-40.
The students had made a promising start through Grace Wanjiku and Berly Amayo to tie the scores 8-8 in the first quarter.
Strathmore recovered in the last quarter to lead 14-12 with Faith Owich replying with 10 points as Lucy Apondi had nine.
Coach Juma Kent of Eagle Wings was happy man after harvesting a 20-0 walk-over against Kisumu-based Cruisers, who failed to show up.
Eagle Wings are unbeaten in four matches.
Kisumu's Lakeside played well to silence their hosts International Christian Centre 79-62.
Absalom Ojiem, Chrispin Biko and Joshua Charles carried Lakeside. The winners led 32-27 at half-time.

10 early points

Ojiem scored 21 points, Biko and Charles each had 12 for Lakeside. Emmanuel Ekai scored 16 points, Adams Njoroge shot 15 and Vito Kote 11 for the losers.
On Sunday, Abel Kimondo and Bosire Bogonko led Co-op Bank in a 64-52 win over the hard-fighting Lakeside.
Wycliffe Ochieng fired 10 early points, while Allan Ouma and George Kamau also impressed Co-op Bank fans from start.
The duo's contributions saw Co-op Bank lead 17-10 in the first quarter with star Kimondo employing a tight defence.
Despite Charles Abuto and Dickson Masudi's aggressive offence, Lakeside trailed 35-22 at half-time.
