TANZANIA : Dar Face Mwanza in Taifa Cup Final

By Oliver Albert
Men's defending champions Dar es Salaam were the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the Taifa Cup basketball championships.
Dar qualified from Group A' after comfortably winning their first two matches against Dodoma and Ruvuma.

The maximum six points Dar picked up from the two games made yesterday's match against Morogoro a mere formality for the title-holders.
One team from each of the four groups in the men's competition will play in today's semi-finals.

Group B' has Arusha, Mwanza, Tabora and Tanga, Group C' comprises Coast, Mara, Mbeya and Pemba while Group D' has Kilimanjaro, Lindi, Shinyanga and Zanzibar.

Ruvuma were eliminated despite beating Morogoro 70-50 yesterday.
Morogoro led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Ruvuma stepped up their game to lead 31-22 and 50-33 in the next two quarters.

Ruvuma's Himid Choka was the top scorer with 20 points while team mate Francis Mlewa contributed nine points. Frederick Msafiri and Mazinda Haruna scored 17 and 11 points respectively for Morogoro.

Women's defending champions Dar es Salaam were also through to the semi-finals yesterday after beating Mwanza 54-35.

Dar led 12-8, 31-14 and 41-15 en route to registering a comfortable win over Mwanza, who never settled against a Dar side packed with experienced players.
Nelly Anyingisye and Judith Ilunda scored 14 and 11 points respectively for the title-holders, while Candida Nzomukunda and Agnes Mwamvunile were Mwanza's top scorers with 10 and nine points respectively.
