UgandaN basketballers have the potential to polish their skills and also improve their rankings within Zone Five, a South African consultant Myke Scholl has said.
Uganda’s rivals Kenya have over the years enjoyed a dominant hold in the region that also comprises Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania.
Scholl says Uganda will be a force to reckon with in the near future if it can work towards building on the budding talents.
Scholl is a consultant with South African-based Miles and Associates International and also Africa’s scout for American NBA side Detroit Pistons.

The official highlighted Uganda’s potential during the launch of a Youth development project called ‘Success By Choice Programme’ recently.

Scholl is also behind the establishment of he Basketball Without Borders camp that runs annually in South Africa and attracts talented boys under 18 years from all over Africa.
“The sport has amazing talent and with appropriate guidelines, Ugandan players can not only dominate their region, but also upgrade to the Olympics, a goal which the domestic federation should particularly aim for,” Scholl noted.

The Success By Choice project that will use basketball as a tool for empowerment, is expected to run for six months and will incorporate an effective learning approach with emphasis on health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS awareness and good sportsmanship.

Success by Choice will be held in 28 Kampala schools.
