Story by PHILIP ONYANGO

US-based basketball star Josephine Achieng Owino finally arrived yesterday morning bringing to four the number of foreign players already in camp for the All Africa Games to be held in Algiers next month.

Others who have so far arrived are UK-based Marion Githengi, Rose Ouma of Lewis and Clerk in Illinois and another US-based player Lorraine Achieng.

Owino, a second year student at Union University in Tennessee, was recently honoured by being named in the NAIA All-American team.

Briefly stranded

She was earlier expected to arrive in the country on Tuesday but was briefly stranded in Chicago after a UK transit visa hitch. Kenya’s head coach Ronnie Owino was at the airport to receive the player.

“We have decided to give her a day’s rest and she will be joining the rest of the players in training from tomorrow (today),” Kenya Basketball Federation chairman Agina Wasonga said of the centre.

Owino, and her Lady Bulldog team mates Natanya Smith and Kaitlin Dudley were named in the NAIA All –American second team after the conclusion of the collegiate season.

Earlier in the season, Owino and her three-team mates were also picked in the All-Conference selections.

Last season, Owino was named to the NAIA All-Tournament team after leading Union to their second of two straight national titles.
