KENYA : Champs KPA Stretch Unbeaten Run in Basketball League

Women's basketball league champions Kenya Ports Authority maintained their unbeaten run when they beat USIU Flames 77-40 at Nairobi's Nyayo stadium yesterday.

In other matches yesterday, it was: Java Warriors 80 JKUAT 70, Dynamites 53 JKUAT 48, Yana 38 Sprite Storms 56, Strathmore 57 Don Bosco 53, JKUAT 60 Nairobi Pentecostal Church 70.Yesterday, KPA went into the scoring rush through veterans Gladys Wanyama, Millicent Anyango and Miriam Awuor to race to a 29-10 first quarter lead.

The dockwomen led 47-20 at half-time.

On resumption, Flames reorganised with Mitchelle Otinda and Angela Okoth keeping the portswomen on their toes. Flames went 12-10 in the third quarter.On sensing danger, KPA's Anyango, Wanyama and Awuor strongly defended their clean record, outscoring Flames 20-8 in the last quarter. Wanyama scored game-high 22 points for KPA while Otinda shot 12 for Flames.

In the men's Division One match, Mike Muriithi's Java Warriors kept alive their chances of finishing in the first spot when they beat JKUAT 80-70.

Howard Juma and Kenneth Githinji showed their true colours from the word go to lead Java Warriors to a 21-15 first quarter advantage. Java, who have garnered 21 points from 12 outings, were up 47-25 at half-time.
