SEYCHELLES : Hot Shots and Pointe Larue Falcons hit century mark

HOT SHOTS moved to the top of the Women’s League table after hitting the century mark against Cadettes in a 100-26 win last Thursday at Victoria Gymnasium with the resumption of the second round of the championship.

With 13 points after seven wins and a defeat, Anse Boileau-based Hot Shots were expected to lose top spot yesterday as defending champions Anse Etoile Stars were to play Juniors.

The Stars went into yesterday’s match with 11 points, the same total as third-placed Bel Air.

Despite last Thursday’s loss, Cadettes remain fifth with eight points after having also taken to the court seven times.

They lead Juniors and Hackers who are occupying sixth and seventh positions with seven and four points respectively.

Mont Fleuri are the other team in the seven-team league and they are fourth with nine points after six games played.

Meanwhile, in the Men division 1B league, Beau Vallon Heat suffered another crushing defeat on a 46-100 score to Pointe Larue Falcons over the weekend to remain winless in seven matches and stay at the foot of the seven-team table.

The Heat played among the elites in local basketball until late last year and this season they are having a difficult time picking up the pieces following relegation to the Men division 1B.

Coach Valli Isamël’s team have also lost sharp-shooter Danny Bertin who has joined Men division 1A leaders Premium Cobras after having served a long-term ban.

In their seventh outing last Sunday, the Heat had two payers – J. Decommarmond (15 points including three 3-pointers) and C. Preira (12 points) – scoring in double digits, but they could not stop their team from losing, especially with Pointe Larue Falcons’ Kevin Sinon scoring a game-high 31 points.

J. Lawen added 19 points to finish as second best scorer for Pointe Larue Falcons who scored 25 points in each of the four quarters.

With the win, their sixth in seven games, last year’s Men’s second division winners Pointe Larue Falcons have climbed to the top of the Men division 1B league standings with 13 points.
In the Men’s second division, Juniors are still leading the charge even after their defeat to LMS Jazz over the weekend.

The Jazz won 50-43 against the leaders but failed to take over at the top due to inferior basket difference. Both teams are locked on 15 points.

They are being closely followed by La Misère Chasers who outclassed Falcons Youth 72-58 to remain third on 14 points.

RA Herons got the better of Mont Fleuri Dawgz with a 51-48 victory to move into fourth position with 12 points, while the Dawgz remain sixth with 10 points.
