KENYA: Mombasa team leaves for Inter-cities

Defending women champions Mombasa City leave this morning for Kampala for the East and Central Africa inter-cities basketball championships. The tournament starts tomorrow at Lugogo Indoor Sports Complex in the Ugandan capital.

Coast Basketball Association chairman Tobby Otum, however, said that Mombasa Combined men’s team will not travel due to lack of money. The women side comprises players from league side Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

The port side was recently crowned the East and Central Africa Club champions and much is expected from them in Kampala.

Team coach Anthony Ojukwu, is optimistic his side will come back with the title.

The annual event, which was held in Mombasa last year, has attracted 18 cities.

Host city Kampala is expected to enter two men teams and two women teams. Jinja will have one men team while Dar-es-Salaam will send both men and women teams. Mbeya, Tanga, Lusaka and Kigali will also be represented.

Nairobi combined women side consisting players from Railways, Sprite Storms, Telkom, Strathmore and KCB Lioness have also confirmed participation.
