GAMBIA: Basketball Wallidan Win Super Cup Title
Wallidan basketball team of Banjul emerged the winners in the 2005/06 Super Cup final after beating their arch rivals YMCA in a keenly contested final played on Saturday, May 13 , at the Manneh Sillah memorial lawn in Banjul.
Attended by hundreds of enthusiastic spectators, the last season league champions, Wallidan beat the knockout title holders, YMCA by 60-58 in a fiery and exciting encounter.
As signalled by the final score line (60-58), the final was keenly contested by both sides. But Wallidan managed to snatch the coveted title in the dying minutes with a sensational performance from their versatile player, 'Yankees'. As winners, Wallidan received a giant trophy and cash prize of D5000.00, while the runners up,YMCA, went home D3000 richer.
