NIGERIA: Lagos Outshines Bayelsa

Lagos State male team won the gold medal to dash the hopes of hard-fighting Bayelsa warriors in the basketball event of the Gateway Games but the story was not the same in the female version.
Lagos had earlier defeated Bayelsa in the preliminary, but when the two teams took to the court for the final, the Bayelsans showed some flashes that put the Lagos Boys on their toes.
Bayelsa dominated the first quarter, which ended in their favour 17-11 but at the resumption of the second quarter, the Peter Ahmed-led team took over the initiative, which saw the Bayelsa team trailing to the end of the match.
Their Ogun State counterparts thrashed Lagos female team in the final 74-46. The match which many described as a one sided affair saw the Coach Mark Balogun-led Ogun team turn their Lagos opponent to practicing materials.
Babs Ogunade, chairman of Lagos State Basketball Association after the match said he would have loved to win the two gold medals but was happy that the state still won the male gold medal.
